This was a dual branded IHG Hotel. It had a total of768 guest rooms, 305 of which were Crowne Plaza
rooms and 463 Holiday Inn Express rooms. We were responsible for the guest room and corridor
fit out package, Building Services along with the management of the logistics for the development.
This was the largest hotel in the UK to complete in2019. We were responsible for the logistics which
involved collaboration with the Transport police, Heathrow Logistics as although this was landside it
was adjacent to Terminal 4.
- The rooms were finished to a high standard with the HIX rooms being painted on 3 walls with a feature wall using a blue textured wall paper the skirtings were all colour coded to match the walls. The bathrooms used composite stone vanity units with shower enclosures. The Crowne Plaza rooms were finished in wallpaper with a pre finished skirting the bathrooms had granite vanity units and floor tiles with oversized wall tiles with walk in showers and contained large leg backlit mirrors surrounded with pearlescent mosaics.
Being the largest project that we had been involved in we carried our learning experience from our work on smalle
hotel projects. We implemented the Lean construction planning model again working with the other contractors
to maximise our efficiency along with our ability to manage the workforce. As the project was dualbranded distribution and material management was essential to ensure that we had the right products going into the right rooms. We ran a dedicated off-site distribution centre which we used to bring in products in complete room packs
on a JIT basis.
